You put the antique drill in a glass case and then a nice color pic/description of the LATEST units and advantages. A little "depth" never hurts IMHO. I prefer not to know too much about what they do to me. I take a
tranquillizer pill, and I close my eyes. I had bad experiences, so they
make me nervous.

My old doctor had a felt case with old scalpels and tools, maybe medieval.

Mine uses what looks the same machine, but the result is a 3D
computerized scan. He can look up a single tooth in the computer and
rotate it, find how deep goes the caries...
I don't believe they use chemicals.

They > use photos instead, now made with a electronic sensors, not chemicals. > So very low power. A sensitive grid of pressure sensors could likely do a fair job of it - but might not show "pinched toes" quite as well. Some 'hybrid' tech - pressure sensors PLUS low-rez ultrasound - would surely do the trick quite well and maybe cheaper than those old X-ray units. Have seen some news on medical devices that use triple-tech ... low-field MRI plus ultrasound plus low-rez CAT. Computers can now easily combine the results and create a much higher rez and richer result than any alone. Even Linux has some standard packages for doing MRIs and similar. I wonder if any of those old x-ray units are stored anywhere. Might be useful for imaging other materials and devices and such. At 'salvage' prices, great ! Just keep yer distance a bit :-) Bound to be lots of old DENTAL units in some surplus warehouse too. Building a relatively 'soft' x-ray tube using lab glassware does not seem so difficult. Need a fairly good vac pump. but nothing TOO extreme. You can buy thin little moly metal squares. A 50KV DC supply and you're set. Hey, it is 19th-century tech ...

The glass had become a bit cloudy due to long exposure :-) Yea, THAT bad.

I have not seen doctors using them in ages.
My old doctor, now retired, had a bronze plate at the entrance to the
building (his clinic was in a residential flat) that said he had an
X-Ray machine. As a kid those things were used often (on me). This
doctor never used the machine in the XXI century. I don't know if he
removed the machine or not.

Really WAY WAY too much radiation, and not just for the patient. Enough rays to light up a screen the human eye can see - extreme. I think there are alt-approach solutions now, like if they're trying to place a cardiac stent or whatever. The docs do NOT stand in the radiation path anymore though. But, through the 50s, radiation was measured in friendly "sunshine units" :-) > My old doctor, now retired, had a bronze plate at the entrance to the > building (his clinic was in a residential flat) that said he had an X- > Ray machine. The old units, yes, but perhaps they can use the same advanced
electronic sensors as for fixed shots, just several times per second.

You would not recognise them if they did.
A scintillation later coupled to a flat panel CCD etc is what you have now.
Something like that is used in heart surgery to guide arterial probes
and, with contrast agents in the bloodstream, identify active arterial
blockages:
AI Overview
X-ray technology—specifically fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray imaging)—is
the core visual guide doctors use to perform arterial angioplasty and
stenting.
How X-Ray Technology is Used
Fluoroscopy ("X-ray movie"): Instead of a single static X-ray picture,
fluoroscopy continuously projects live video images onto a monitor in
the catheter lab or interventional suite. This lets the cardiologist or
radiologist watch the exact path of wires and instruments inside the body.
Contrast Dye Injection: Blood vessels do not show up clearly on
standard X-rays. Doctors inject a special iodine-based contrast dye
through the catheter into the bloodstream to make the interior of the
arteries glow on the X-ray screen.
Real-Time Guidance: The live X-ray feed helps the doctor thread a thin
guide-wire, manoeuver the balloon-tipped catheter to the exact spot of
the blockage, inflate the balloon to push plaque aside, and accurately
expand a metal mesh stent.
Verification Checks: After deploying the stent, doctors inject more
contrast dye under X-ray view to confirm that the stent is fully open
and that normal blood flow has returned.

Today you report to a clinic for X rays. It's totally routine. In my
local hospitals its not even something you necessarily need to book in
advance. I've been sent to 'get and X-ray' from one department to the
X-ray clinic and just waited ten minutes or so.
CT and MRI scans are a bit more expensive and need more staff and
procedure. And booking. And even that may be interrupted.
I had to wait while a RTA cyclist had his head scanned for injury
Same with my heart operation 'we have had an emergency, you've been
moved to the afternoon session'

Still no battery. >> > > I actually had this idea long ago, but did nothing about it :-) > does need a pretty strong local station though. When the really powerful (LW and MW, I think - before FM) stations were set up, there were people - and pubs - who made a show of running their lighting (no rectification needed for filament lighting!) off it; there were claims that they were stealing the power, but I don't know if they were ever successfully prosecuted for doing it, or even stopped at all. -- J. Your equipment would have to be "pretty close to something", to collect enough power to run a 20W per channel PA off the signal. And I would want to put that energy, into making the second receiver more selective. Rather than raising the power level of the kind of noise that comes out of hobby crystal sets :-) My crystal set (1N34A detector, not galena cats whisker), you could hear that anywhere in the room. Powering something like this, might give a cleaner signal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheterodyne_receiver Paul
