  I think it is registered for/with your *computer*, not for your
Microsoft Account. (Think about it: How can Microsoft know which
(normal) updates you need, when you only have a local account? They *do*
know, so this information is stored somewhere else.)

  I only have a local account, have use the github script and Windows
Update says I'm enrolled. Time will tell.

I didn't use any script. Just whatever MS gave me via WU.

Good to see you here on the other team in the Windows newsgroups... 

You can tell your ESU status in the registry with the command in this
tutorial that queries the registry for both the status and the reason.

This is the command:
 C:\> reg.exe query "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\ConsumerESU"

All possible values and their meaning is listed in that tutorial for you.

  My point was that if I get the ESU enrollment notification with only a
local account, i.e. I do not have a Microsoft Account, it's no wonder
that you (also) get it in your "local non-MS admin account".

  I.e. having or not having a Microsoft Account is irrelevant for the
ESU enrollment *notification* itself (for the reasons I explained). To
*get* the notification *does* require a Microsoft Account, unless you
use the github script (as I did).

There was a suggestion to check gpedit.msc if you're on Pro.
I also turned off my grc.com InControl, but on my broken
machine, nothing is working. The Enroll teaser is present
in the Windows Update window, but the script keeps bombing
on the same two errors. This implies I don't get a biscuit,
unless I perform a trick with an MSA first :-) And you know
the deal with these dog tricks, if you give up an MSA,
the thing will still be broken (of course) :-)

It's like with web sites that promise to process a picture
or a PDF or the like. You upload a file to them (they're "free"),
absolutely nothing happens, except now they got your file, and
you got "nothing in return". Been there and have the stack
of Tshirts.

Just as a kind of followup: if you have received an ESU enrollment 
option or used the powershell script, you can tell if it was successful 
by going to Settings->Update and Security page and looking about mid 
page.  If you were successful, there will be a line that says "Your PC 
is enrolled to get Extended Security Updates".  I used the powershell 
method and that's what I got on Windows Pro.

If you maximise that settings page, the confirmation (or perhaps
non-confirmation!) is at the top right corner (top of third column,
which may not appear if you don't have the page maximised).
