It'll be programmed. Dancing in time to music is an extremely complex process. The motor planning and reactions will be too slow if purely algorithmic. Far easier to fix timing issues in video post processing ;)

That would > IMO suggest that his speculations are correct. that's not quite what i said, and a different song would require different steps. it might move in rhythm, but it won't look that good. what i said was they likely programmed in various dance steps and then choreographed a dance for that particular song using those steps, with the timing based on the actual audio. determining bpm of the music is very easy (not what i would call 'algorithmic analysis') and the motor ballistics are known. the hard part is the choreography :)

Choreography takes as much creativity as writing music.
You'd want to see, if for the music they selected for
that video, there was a music-video available. And if the
human dancer in the video did similar moves. That would
tell you where the inspiration came from.
