Dear alt.comp.microsoft.windows,

I recently had the displeasure of being forced to change my password on
my Windows 11 tower. Now, I want to reset the password on the Windows
10 computer, so they are again the same -- that way, I believe the
shares I set up earlier this year will work again -- and I have no idea
how to do that. I tried looking it up on the Microsoftian website, but
got this utterly useless drivel,

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/accounts-billing/security/change-or-reset-your-microsoft-account-password-in-windows

because I do not want to lock my screen, nor log out, when I change my
password. Nor do I care about changing the password of the Microsoftian
account, because that's different, and I don't use it to log myself in
locally.

Then, to top it off, I want to reconfigure my Windows 11 tower such that
it will never ask me to change the password, again. I am perfectly
willing to remember that on my own.

Can a kind soul here in alt.comp.microsoft.windows point me in the right
directions for either of these tasks?

Press "WIN + R" simultaneously to open the "Run" window
Type "control userpasswords2", without quotes, and click "OK"
The "User Accounts" window will open
In the "Users of this computer:" list, click on the user who wants to
change the password...

Thank you. That tells me to use ctrl+alt+del, and then change the
password there, but now my shares are working again, so everything's
good.

So, erm. How do I make sure my Windows 11 tower will not ask again for
me to change the password?

Option 1 (only exists in Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise and Education - not
in Home):
- Press the Windows key + R -> type: lusrmgr.msc -> Enter
- Select the account -> under general option change setting "Password
never expires"

Option 2 (Command Prompt - works in all versions):
- Right-click the Start button and choose the Terminal (as Admin) entry,
- Type one of the commands below into the command prompt and press
Enter, then type or copy/paste line below:
Set-LocalUser -Name 'desired_username' -PasswordNeverExpires $true
It sets "Password never expires" for user "desired_username" - adjust
specific username here.
