"Claws Mail is an email client (and news reader), based on GTK+ (...).
The appearance and interface are designed to be familiar to new users
coming from other popular email clients, as well as experienced users.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard.
The messages are managed in the standard MH format, which features
fast access and data security. You'll be able to import your emails
from almost any other email client, and export them just as easily.
Lots of extra functionality, like an RSS aggregator, calendar, or
laptop LED handling, are provided by extra plugins.
Claws Mail is distributed under the GPL."
OS: various Linux distros, BSD, Solaris, M$ Windows.

Thanks. Is Claws Mail MAPI or extended MAPI compliant?

(I searched the Claws Mail website but found little).

Nope. There's only this:

As a news reader, what are the disadvantages or missing feature?

Dunno about the latest versions, but I found that the
filtering started getting horribly slow when the database got big.
I'm talking 5 minutes while it decided which messages it
retrieved needed to be deleted. It appeared to be applying the filters
to ALL messages, not just the newly retrieved ones.
If that has been fixed, it's OK.
I used it as my main news reader in Linux before opting for
the much faster Pan (which lacks everyday features only Forte Agent
has).

Yeah, that was my problem with Pan. I tried to like it, but was much
happier with 40Tude in WINE.

Nice program but not natively portable yet! (Windows version tested)
I prefer Sylpheed Portable.
Same core (GTK), less features than Claws but 100% portable.
This fits my needs

I never tried Sylpheed. My favorite e-mail client for M$ Windows was
Pegasus and Claws Mail has more similarities ("looks and feel") with
it than other Linux e-mail programs I've looked at. Perhaps Sylpheed
is OK as well.
