Nah, you announced Audacity. Some others announced other real
updates (most of the freeware updates these days are cosmetic, they
change the version number so they appear on the software sites as
"updates", even if the "update" is one word in a Chinese help file).

Somebody (here?) used this sig recently and it stuck in my head:
"Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers and
having to visit 10 different newsstands to pick up each one. USENET is
like having all of those newspapers delivered to your door every
morning."

Used to be. Everybody also presumed professionalism was de facto the
way one conducted oneself;- USENET was first regulated within a
privilege of universities, neither open to the public, generally, nor
to interests of industry and advertising. When that changed, due to
political decree, (USENET faculties were owned by government and
granted to selected universities), familiarity changed into a lapse
for the commonplace. Things weren't working out -- such as beggars out
of a fringe that figured out to set a likes of unattended computers in
their basements to incessantly spam USENET and the WEB. The People
left and moved wholesale into provisions from a likes of Facebook and
privately sponsored forums, a cushion of isolationism therewithal to
identify more of themselves in exchange for a sense of worthier
identities: anyone then not towing a given party line, in need of
being clicked, could be conveniently labeled a terrorist, spammer or
disseminator of fake news.

. . .As with anything that only can get better, once Windows 10 and a
modification of what a password means to government and industry
intent on a greater lock on licensing identities, for not just some
but on all users.

err... it should have said "USENET is like having all those newspapers
and every stray flyer from the newsstand delivered to your door, not to
mention any and all assorted cat pooh picked up on the way."

I didn't consider it thievery at all. Feel free to spread it around
and/or adopt it as your sig. It sure would be nice to see USENET
survive.
