If you've checked out the urls Chris provided me that I posted, you'll find it's entirely because of a bandaid approach. They switched to a new certificate to sign the binaries with. XP SP2 can't properly handle sha-2 certificates. Evidently (I haven't really checked it out much) some flavors of Vista have the same issue. So, the genius at Mozilla decided to redirect downloads based on the host data that's reported back to them. Knowing in advance it's unreliable and they can't reliably determine the service pack level. That's shoddy. That's something I'd expect to see you pull, actually. Piss poor, half ass, scripting in this case. Right up your alley! They did this knowing they couldn't properly determine the service pack data. So, as a result of their half assing, XP machines can't download the newer binaries directly, despite the fact the binary can be executed fine on XP SP3, and, Vista machines can't get it either, although that isn't even documented in the urls Chris provided me, and, he didn't mention Vista in any aspect in the email. Maybe you should volunteer to work on the site, Jessalyn. You can't make it any worse. -- Hey listen... On your way back up, bring some popcorn...With salt.

It has nothing to do with the network you're using. It has everything to do with the host OS being reported back to them. So, there was nothing wrong on my end, this entire time... and, it had nothing to do with a caching issue... Just tell the host OS not to report it's Windows XP when visiting this url: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ Otherwise, nothing to 'fix' on this end, script kiddie. I contacted Mozilla yesterday and this is the reply I got: (h0h0h0) Hi Dustin, we only offer 43.0.1 on XP as a safe install, and then download 43.0.4 as un update because of the SHA changes. You can track what's going on with this in these two bugs. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1233779 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1236171 Which I theorized about, on Jan 1st [g] I notice I'm the only one who put that aspect of the puzzle together, too. :) With that said, In the future, if I find something is amiss, I now know better than to ask for advice if it's technical in nature here. I'm not going to get helpful replies from knowledgeable people. I'll get smartass comments and techie 101 suggestions for troubleshooting, but, nothing of any real value to assist me with the issue. I'm not a newbie, I'm not a wannabe. Thanks anyway. If I post about an issue, I've already done the basic troubleshooting and don't need the smartass (which is hillarious because they're based on such ignorance) replies. The redirect is happening due to the reported OS you're using...As I suspected previously... <XnsA582C8F18D51F7D9A8@dieselpower.eternal-september.org> Unless Mozilla has an issue with a header saying it's an XP host requesting the download, it shouldn't be an issue for both machines. One, sure.. not both, though. The problem is either that or it's further up the stream than my network. It's not an actual 'problem' on this end although the result is I can't download v43.0.3 by clicking the link as I normally should be able to. And, it's been doing that since 43.0.2 was released for me. The problem turned out being exactly what I suspected. if XP is reported as your host OS, you aren't getting the latest binary by clicking the link as you'd normally expect. -- Hey listen... I've reviewed your posts from yesterday (that I can see on this server). I found no mention of you guessing XP had anything to do with it. I see you testing linux and two? different networks, having no issues downloading the proper binary as a result. I see you trying to make smartass replies to me, suggesting that I'm a moron and I don't know how this works, but... that's obviously not the case. I do know how this works. I posted about the problem here, initially. I shared my theory on day one concerning it. It IS an issue with XP being reported as the host. Not a problem on my end, nothing to do with any cache having outdated html. Entirely on Mozilla's end, the whole time. XP SP3 is affected as well, btw. I don't run any XP SP2 machines. The fact XP SP3 can't download the proper windows binary from the usual site is the fault of Mozilla. They've been aware of this since atleast Jan 1st and have made no progress in fixing it. You can see that by reading the comments at the urls I shared from the email paste. SP2 had a problem with the SHA signing, SP3 doesn't. Mozilla can't get the right OS service pack version from the host data, so they don't let you have the latest windows binary if the host reports it's XP, any version, any service pack. One poster named, Carl, who obviously discovered this problem around the same time as myself is in the same boat as me. He too has XP machines that still need to be in operation and require manual! updates to get the newest firefox. They can't all do it within the browser due to security/policy settings. Mozilla clearly fucked up, here. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1236171 Is there any particular reason why typical users looking to do a manual download are not being told about this in any obvious way? What purpose does it serve to confuse people? The computers I am responsible for do include a Windows XP machine, but it is SP3, not SP2. @Kaiser (comment #3): That web page says "The latest version of Firefox is available on Windows XP SP3". This does not appear to be true for manual downloads using a WinXP-SP3 machine. As for using an existing Firefox installation to update itself, that is not an option for certain types of lockdown scenarios, so manual download/installs of 43.0.3 must be made possible. Having Firefox alert the user with popups that 43.0.3 is available when it cannot be obtained is misleading. I didn't see you make any suggestions to resolve the issue...I didn't see any posts from you isolating the problem, either. Do you have the MID to your post indicating XP is the problem? I'd like to see it. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to acknowledge that. I love the snippage, too. I'll repeat the rest of the post you snipped and so ignorantly responded to: Which I theorized about, on Jan 1st [g] I notice I'm the only one who put that aspect of the puzzle together, too. :) With that said, In the future, if I find something is amiss, I now know better than to ask for advice if it's technical in nature here. Exactly, the HTML remarks were hilarious. It was obvious the server side scripting was inserting a different URL for some reason. It occurred to me that it was an OS [Dinosaur related] issue while I was in the shower just before beddies time. I was going to test it in the morning but well we had snow overnight and the misses wanted to play snowballs and that led to coffee and buns and shopping and more coffee and buns and then when I got back I started playing with Fedora 23 [new install] and some electronic toys and I forgot all about it while I was laughing at the pain you have to endure to get Linux working half as well as Windows. Still can't get Netflix to work despite all the reassuring waffle that Chrome just does it now. As for RTL-SDR jeese... still I managed to get the dongle working with the application I wanted to test but sheesh. Anyway have fun trying to prove how brilliant you are for sending an email and I look forward to skimming your wordwalls about this. It was obvious the > server side scripting was inserting a different URL for some > reason. Wasn't it though...The reason as I correctly deduced on January 1st is on Mozilla's end. Buggy scripting. My theory was confirmed today from a Mozilla representative who was kind enough to email me back. You provided no useful information in the posts you wrote that were actually on topic. You tested it from two different networks, proudly running linux. You shared the findings of your results, and, at no time, did you mention XP might be the issue. *I* did, though. If you thought it was an XP related issue, why did you feel it necessary to test again using Fedora linux on yet another network? The result should have been the same for you, you were able to download the proper binary. If you knew/suspected you knew what was going on, you wouldn't have wasted the time or energy on a totally useless 'test' which provided the same results as your initial test. There was no point in providing the DNS numbers anything resolved to, or provide urls where it gave you the correct version. All bullshit aside, you had no clue it was OS header data fucking the XP users over. And, it had nothing to do with any cache, or a 3rd party cloud service being misconfigured. It was on Mozillas end, directly, the entire time. Mozilla fucked up, plain and simple, all excuses/spin aside. Why did it take you two weeks to guess (yet remain silent on your guess) (taken at your word and we all know how honest you aren't) it may be an issue with XP? As I said above, why go through all the hassle of testing the download on two different networks and sharing urls where it worked fine for you? Nah, face it, sport, you had no idea WTF was going on. And, this effort to spin your story isn't going to work. You should just stop before you dig yourself a hole so deep, you'll never be able to crawl out of it. Save face, stop posting horse shit. > It occurred to me that it was an OS [Dinosaur related] > issue while I was in the shower just before beddies time. Yet, despite the light coming on (so you say) you went on to test with two different networks and post what various domains resolved to. (two weeks after I already mentioned it's either an issue with the host data being sent to Mozilla; first guess, or something else further up the stream) At no time did you hint or come right out and state, you thought it might be an issue related to XP. As for Dinosaur related, no. XP SP3 has no trouble with SHA-2 signed executables. This is a clusterfuck due entirely to piss poor coding practice on Mozillas end. They knew (based on the urls I've been browsing today) that the user agent header information wasn't that reliable and they couldn't determine the corresponding service pack present based on it. Knowing this, they went ahead and redirected all XP machines, as well as vista machines to the older binary; without telling a soul this was occuring or why. Only when I reached out to them (via an assinine system, I might add) did they decide to let me know what they did. It's not mentioned on the main site anywhere. The email Chris sent me today doesn't even mention Vista also being told to get fucked. > application I wanted to test but sheesh. Anyway have fun trying to > prove how brilliant you are for sending an email and I look > forward to skimming your wordwalls about this. However sonny, I > was way ahead of you as usual. You were so ahead of me, as usual, that you totally missed the fact I created the thread discussing this, already theorized on the first day what the problem was. Yea, you're ahead of me alright. [g] The email response confirmed my theory, nothing more to it than that. Face facts, You've been 0wned again by a former blackhat who doesn't just talk the talk (like you) but actually has walked the walk, too. No wordwall, just the facts. Ouch, no where for you to run, nowhere for you to hide. Everything I wrote and claimed is all verifiable, right here. [g] You offered NO advice concerning XP. Now, you're trying to backpeddle because I asked for an MID of you guessing (even if you did, it was two weeks after I already did - rofl) it was XP. You clearly didn't put your guess on any posts. Otherwise, I'd have seen an MID from you. You were only too happy to share one yesterday. <bfg> You're a poseur, a script kiddie... and nothing more. You only impress halfwits who think console is a dark scary place. You provide entertainment for people like me. -- Hey listen... On your way back up, bring some popcorn...With salt.
