I thought I'd understood you to say earlier that the link > seems to be correct on the page, but that clicking it results in > downloading the wrong binary, which makes it even more curious. The link does appear to be correct going by the description at bottom left hand side of the screen. I posted a screenshot previously. The description indicated the correct version at the time, but, clicking the link itself would result in downloading 43.0.1, not the version shown in the description. The reason I didn't see the point in flushing my own cache and/or reloading raw and asking the servers to refresh was because the description had the right information, but, the link itself was pointing to the wrong binary. I didn't think an outdated cache would have been responsible for this, unless! someone at Mozilla edited the page while it was 'live' and for some reason the ISP I use didn't obtain an updated copy. If this were a small mom and pop ISP, it would have been a realistic/feasable thought. But, it's a large well known ISP and I'm sure I'm not the only one who surfed to Mozilla that day. [g] I did flush the cache and reloaded via shift+refresh on two seperate machines which displayed the same issue, prior to making my 'bug report' post. I'm usually pretty good about covering the basic troubleshooting steps before I post my findings; knowing the moment I do so, they're subject to peer review. >> > What happens if you paste and enter >> > "https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-43.0.4-SSL&os=win >> > &lang=en-US" into the address bar? You don't have to reply to my posts at all, let alone > answer any questions I've asked. This was clearly a miscommunication issue. I'm going to take the the hit for that one. :) I really *didn't* intend to come across with any tone towards you. My comment was directed at I shouldn't have to try and load the link manually, I should be able to just click the link and leech the correct binary :) To answer your question concerning the url above, it *still* provides me the v43.0.1 binary if I load it as is between the quotes into the address bar. I just tried it. [g] The only thing the computers I've tried it with so far have in common aside from the same ISP and IP to the outside world, is the OS they're running. It's Windows XP Professional. Perhaps there's some sort of issue with Mozilla concerning OS header information returned by the browser? v43.0.4 does install and run on Windows XP. I haven't run into any issues with it, that I know of. Aside from the inability to download the correct binary by following the url you posted. >> I don't think we have anything in common that can explain it. Do >> you? > > I may not ever have enough info to speculate about that. :) That isn't what I meant. rofl. -- Hey listen... On your way back up, bring some popcorn...With salt.

Until fairly recently, Mozilla had just used a lot of mirrors, with Mozilla hardware determining which mirror would be used (AIUI, which might not have been very well). > >> I don't think we have anything in common that can explain it. ISTM that with some help from the group we should be able to find out if the "SOME downloads aren't the right file" problem is location related If you want to help please go to: <https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/> which *should* be linking to version 43.0.4 scroll down the first column to: English (US) Move right to the first download link for Windows (the 32 bit version) click on that link and after the DL starts copy the entire DL link and post it here with some indication of your location The only DL link I've seen here (Michigan) over a period of days is: <https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/43.0.1/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2043.0.1.exe> What is your DL link & location? In my previous report, the redirect was at HTTP level. I know it from my download manager log because the log shows the full HTTP headers. But I don't remember the HTTP code. Only the presence of the "Location" header.

My XP machines are SP3. They have no problem with the SHA-2 signed digital certificate Mozilla is using now. They shouldn't be denied the manual download. They can install it, just fine. Reading more on the urls Chris provided me today, I've discovered it's because Mozilla can't determine the service pack in use, so they're just denying all XP machines the latest binary if you go that route. Poor programming on their part, and, rude as hell not to tell people who still might run XP that they aren't going to be able to download the latest binary via the normal route, outside the web browser. >> You can track what's >> going on with this in these two bugs. >> https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1233779 >> https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1236171 > > If it's not a *BUG* but a *FEATURE* ISTM they should add that > information to the web page.and revise the bug reports to indicate > the actual situation I wouldn't call this a feature. SP2 and down has a problem with SHA-2 signing, not SP3. https://www.trustzone.com/Support/Compatibility/sha_2_compatibility > Pick one: > 1. Firefox folks are arrogant > 2. The URL redirection is based on the User-Agent HTTP request header. I'm in XP SP3. Opera gives me v43.0.1, while my download manager gives me v43.0.4. The download manager doesn't send any User-Agent HTTP request header at all. > If it's not a *BUG* but a *FEATURE* ISTM they should add that > information to the web page.and revise the bug reports to indicate the > actual situation It's surprising to know that developers of that caliber still code using assumption. > Pick one: > 1. The bug reports talk about Windows XP SP2 only, but they block latest downloads for Windows XP SP2, SP3 and for Windows Vista. It's complete misunderstanding to me. When I'm visiting "Download all" page it means that I want download the latest version for another language or OS, different from version reported by User Agent string of my browser. IMHO they should either add separate column for Windows XP/Vista or remove files for Windows 64-bit, MacOSX and Linux when browsing the page from XP/Vista. And why do they mix proper versions for MacOSX and Linux with wrong version for Windows x64 (which requires Windows7+)? -- Andrzej P. Woźniak uszer@pochta.onet.pl (swap z<->h in address)

They should let me download the one i'm asking to download, and, if they think my OS might not support it, let me know that then. Leave it upto me to make the final decision. -- Hey listen...
