(Apparently) Something went wrong with IM that we don't have the back 
story on yet that led to an altered judgment condition.  Maybe something 
neurologically or psychologically wrong in his brain, maybe something 
related to drugs, legal or illegal of a psychotropic nature.  Mood 
problem, prescription meds problem, non-prescription drugs, plus some 
alcohol.  For a wild example, some coders believe that a little bit of 
LSD helps them code better.  Obviously that pathway has all kinds of 
hazards; bad psychotropic, too much 'normal' psychotropic, combining one 
psychotropic with another to get bad interaction, etc.

Being drunk and disturbing the peace and getting into a fracas with the 
cops in the process is not a good idea whether you are black or some 
other color and whether you are rich or poor.

What kind of condition led from a state of apparent normalcy to 
decidedly abnormal behavior is what we need to understand better.  I'm 
sure there will be an autopsy which will show the anatomical condition 
of his brain and substances which contributed to his 'actual' death, but 
that alone may not be enough to answer what led up to the police-related 
activities described by the SFPD.
