The Big Blue Alien walks to the bar and slides some Zorkmids to Mike in return for a mug of tea. "Well, last year was… something, and this year isn't looking to change much. Which sucks." —Spiffy

this era is particularly odiferous, sulphurous, cthuloidolistic.

bubbles... :) bubbles are colorful and shimmery.
anyone else recall True Names? wasn't tnat about bubbles
and also Cities in Flight?
> It's the little, peculiar thoughts that interest me.
heh, i was just thinking about how when any social
group starts making meals as the main topic of interest
it is as basic as it gets (and then subsequent toilet
and toilet paper humor). i think this is a few steps
back from cat and dog pics.

if you like mundane i have a website and gardening is the
main topic so there are pictures. :) this time of the year
it is nice to see some color other than whites, grays and
browns.
www.anthive.com
and the also for mundane, today i must get the trash and
recycling put out and so that is next (before even breakfast
or tea or hot chocolate or ...)
songbird (adrift in the mundane and usually rather amused
by the predicament

I have read several groups while hardly ever responding. I don't see the low activity as suckage. I see it as a sign that people are busy with other things. Yet periodically netizens still remember their old correspondents. I couldn't get the car out of the driveway today. About six inches of sleet has made it impossible to get any traction even on level ground. I got cabin fever, which turned into caffeine fever and so here I am way past bed time, revisiting the old haunts of digital ghosts. I recognize some of the old nyms of users who are true Usenet dinosaurs. They're not extinct (yet!). Some of us who continue to lurk don't say much. If you post something interesting, it *is* being read, even if there is no response. I think some are burnt out on the idea of long discussions because of many reasons I'd rather not blather about. But we are still interested in being informed of the thoughts of others. It's much more human than reading a propaganda news feed on the regular net or Eternal September rage spigots. My attitude toward Usenet changed. Instead of expecting continuous back and forth I see it as a way to just blurt the words and ideas out there for whoever to examine even if they say nary a word. = OCTADE = alt.rhubarb = misc.misc = sci.crypt = = https://soc.octade.net/octade =

I am still around as well, Currently on month 14 without a job. I am hitting the point where I am getting worried. My professional job has been moved to India or given to non-tech people using an AI tool designed to replace needing a tech person to do the work, And I have no idea how to get a mundane job at this point, especially one that pays enough for my minimum needs (mortage, car payment, condo fee, utilities, high credit card balances). *throws a dollar on the bar* Hit me up with something, I need it.
