Very true -- but moving thousands of truckloads of rock through a major urban area would tend to attract attention.

Not if they used their fleet of secret black helicopters to lift all
that rock out to sea....

There is that. :-)

That was me. I enjoy urban fantasy. I mentioned the books and
Jeanne mentioned the tv show.

A very dangerous one. That's why it's hidden and protected.

I like some fantasy shows. The Dresden series was just okay, in
comparison to the books. I wasn't happy with the guy who played
Dresden. The show just couldn't handle everything that was in
the books. It would have been much better as a movie series.
There would be special effects galore plus the story.

I'm doubtful of the work being "improved" by translation
to movies. I think the main points aside from magic are
moral choices, sex, and violence - it's rather "guilty
pleasure" reading for me since, after all, it's not
realistic - and movies would have to tone down the sex.
Or else concentrate on it and leave out the other stuff...

Also Harry Dresden spends a lot of time telling the
reader how magic works. In a movie that calls for
voice-over, or maybe diagrams.

For instance he explains - as it's explained to him -
how you can kill an "immortal" being. And then he
points out that "immortal" beings probably don't like
to have people know that in fact they can be killed.
People who aren't "immortal" in particular. So...
thanks for telling us about it, Harry. ;-)

Hey, thanks for that. Interesting.
