Standing rigging on modern small sailboats usually consists of stainless steel wire and fittings used to support the mast and keep it in column. There are upper and lower shrouds which shrouds are stays that support the mast athwartship. There are forestays and backstays which support the mast fore and aft. There are even running backstays.
