There were no global cooling climate change proponents. The campaign to put SO2 scrubbers in power station smoke stacks was aimed at eliminating acid rain. which was killing conifer forests. That the SO2 was also creating droplets of sulphuric acid in the stratosphere which scatted some sunlight, causing a bit of global cooling wasn't appreciated at the time. Dealing with the ozone hole was similarly climate neutral. > The by product has been CO2 which causes warming. Wrong. CO2 does cause warming, but nothing done to deal with acid rain or the ozone hole has introduced any extra CO2 into the atmosphere.
