Very true.

You could import folders of pictures to FMP, either directly or as
references.

When you do so from iPhoto, you might take the original ones. But if you
do edit the photo over there, the modified version will be placed in a
different folder. 

You might expect to see the modified version when you do use references,
but becaus of that you won't.
