Even though I prefer to do most stuff in Linux I would have to disagree
about not getting any gain bu running MS in a virtual machine.

IMHO MS environments are better run in virtual machines than on real
machines for the following reasons:

1) Many commercial tools written for a MS OS seem to assume that they are
supposed to be installed on a computer bought for the only purpose to run
that software. With virtual hosting it is possible to setup multiple MS
environments for such software installations.

2) Many MS OS installations seem to degrade over time. With the "snapshot"
feature of virtual machines like qemu it is possible to keep reference
installations in a fresh state.
