Heading is useful, I agree (and saves looking for the sun or satellite dishes, which all vanish when one wants them), but lat. and long.? In exceptional circumstances, such as a breakdown or accident, yes. Lat. and long. as input, yes; the apps I've used all accept geo: links. There's car navigation and car navigation. In a strange city, with an irregular street layout, one-ways, bus gateways, etc., a satnav is a boon. On major roads less so. A while ago I had to find my way from Charles-de-Gaulle airport round Paris to Tours (I think it was). Brief notes of road numbers and signs proved better than the satnav.
