Fortran got kicked out of the top 10 by SQL this month. Last month was a
bit surprising when Perl suddenly reappeared. When you get down to less
than 2% there is quite a bit of movement.

The first language I learned was FORTRAN IV in the mid '60s on a System
360/30. Other than the university courses I've never written in the
language. I have converted F77 code from NOAA's public domain stuff to C.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F2c

The utility does indeed convert Fortran 77 to C code that will compile but
it is barely human readable and nothing you would want to maintain. The
company I worked for originally had used F77 for some low level geo
processing but that had been converted to C before my time.

I've mostly used the top 6 on the list except for Java. I had hopes for
Java about 25 years ago but was disappointed. One of my first projects, an
assembler for the Atmel AVR family, was poorly chosen since bit twiddling
is almost impossible.
