When you get down to less than 2% there is quite a bit of movement. The first language I learned was FORTRAN IV in the mid '60s on a System 360/30. Other than the university courses I've never written in the language. I have converted F77 code from NOAA's public domain stuff to C. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F2c The utility does indeed convert Fortran 77 to C code that will compile but it is barely human readable and nothing you would want to maintain. The company I worked for originally had used F77 for some low level geo processing but that had been converted to C before my time. I've mostly used the top 6 on the list except for Java. I had hopes for Java about 25 years ago but was disappointed. One of my first projects, an assembler for the Atmel AVR family, was poorly chosen since bit twiddling is almost impossible.
