Because namedtuples use names for the arguments in the constructor:

>>> from collections import namedtuple
>>> Point = namedtuple('Point', 'x y')
>>> p1 = Point(x=2, y=3)
>>> p1
Point(x=2, y=3)
>>> p1.x
2
