No, not at all, and I can't figure out why you think I was. Any object
has to have memory allocated for it in some way, using one of the four
language-defined storage durations (static, thread, automatic, and
allocated; "allocated" in this context refers to malloc() and equivalent
methods). What I wrote applies equally to all of them.

I'm referring to the implementation-defined alignment requirements that
each type has in the absence of any compiler-specific features like
"#pragma pack". You can query it using the _Alignof operator, added in
C11. Was that unclear?

Yes, that's what it means.

Yes, in the sense that the compiler generates code that relies on that

It does, but again, that information is lost when you take the address
of a misaligned member.
Given a structure with a misaligned int member, you can take the address
of that member and, for example, pass it to a function that takes an
int* argument. That function has no way of knowing that the int object
is misaligned. That's the bug.
