I've been 'cyber-connecting' since the mid-late 80s and I never used anything uucp, but I read the wp (wikipedia) article* which was Informative to me. I think that if I were going to do anything retro, I would choose something retro that at least a few other people are 'retro-ing' with. One of those is telnet BBS. In the old 80s dialup days, I interacted on free local BBS and also a commercial service called GEnie. That was in the days of Prodigy and CompuServe and GEnie was 'borrowing'/ using/ General Electric equipment in its off hours. My hardware was an Atari ST (no hard drive) w/ B&W 'hi res' monitor at 640x400, a dialup modem, and my software was the Atari TOS, a GUI, and the telecom program Flash and some scripts. In any case, altho' the internet overwhelmed all of that old dialup tech, it is still alive in the form of telnet bbs instead of dialup. I don't have any experience, but there are linux telnet clients such as SyncTerm, NetRunner, EtherTerm, and of course one can do it by command line telnet. There is a telnet guide internet site https://www.telnetbbsguide.com/ * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UUCP -- Mike Easter
