  Don't know about Hotmail, but Gmail is *not* "web based email". It's
email, period.

  That you can access it via the web, doesn't make it "web based email",
because you can also access it via POP and IMAP, which have absolutely
nothing to do with the web.

  FWIW, all my (five) email providers have (also) web-access, but none of
them are web-only.

  So there must be *another* reason for rejecting Hotmail, Gmail, etc..
Perhaps because they are 'free'?
