the "Apps.AUTO" folder

How is the AUTO folder within $.Apps supposed to work?

I *think* I recall that applications I put in that folder in the past 
would launch automatically when the machine starts up.  This isn't 
happening for me now unless I specifically include each of these apps 
in the "Configure > Boot > Run" dialogue (which doesn't deserve the 
name "auto".)

And does Apps.AUTO exist in the ROOL setup or only in the RISCOS Ltd 
fork?
