That error is from a misbehaved application that is run in your boot
sequence. That application seems to use extra facilities of a later
CLib without checking for it. Using the usual boot sequence logging
techniques you can find out what it is. Use Martin Avison's Reporter.
It comes with instructions on how to debug your boot sequence.

You should not see this error on a standard 4.39 machine. Maybe you
have got some components from later RISC OS versions installed? That
would also explain the first error above.

CLib 5.53 runs perfectly well on RISC OS 4.39. It is the version I
have been using on RISC OS 4.39 for many years. A lot of software
requires at least that version and there is no need to have any later
version, so in case of doubt I would recommend to use 5.53.
