There is no need for end users to understand this. It is all sorted
out automatically by the system merge tool and by the way software
vendors set up the skeleton !System directories they distribute.
Supposing you start with DDEUtils 1.64 in the 500 directory, for
whatever reason, and you then want to upgrade version 1.73, which
comes in the 310 directory only. Simply upgrading the copy in the 310
directory would not have any effect on a RISC OS 5 machine because it
would still see the old copy of 1.64 in the 500 directory first. The
only way to do that upgrade is to remove the old copy of version 1.64
from 500. It was either put there in error or it was part of a
distribution that had separate versions for RISC OS 3 and 5.
Apparently, the 1.73 distribution did not have a copy in 500, which
indicates that it is considered suitable for all versions of RISC OS,
so the outdated RO5-specific copy is no longer needed.
