It wasn’t a reconditioned ipad.

We aren't talking about warranty, we are talking about resetting
the password so the device he owns can be used again.

Nothing dodgy about the receipts and Apple can confirm
that the receipt is for that ipad any time it likes by contacting
the seller of the ipad and checking that they did issue that.

Nope, the same thing happens with anyone with
an Apple product that is still under warranty.
