I gather COmpactflash were easily interfaced to IDE, so they make a certain sense for solid state replacements of hard drives (especially when probably there is equipment out there that might benefit from such an upgrade). SD cards are different, I thought requiring more of an interface. But if you're taking a floppy drive interface, I don't think the available bus is easily translateable, so you probably need a microprocessor and then it doesn't matter what kind of memory card, so you might as well go cheap. The reality is SD cards have taken over, so they are denser, and cheaper. But even Compactflash is better than some formats. I found a neat little camera, decent number of megapixels, but not only does it use a special battery, but it uses XD cards. Or that 1.4MP DSLR someone gave me, it uses a smartcard (I think that's what they were called), the only one of those I've seen is in the camera, some minor amount of memory. Michael
