There was  along period when I was buying books like that, simply because 
I was behind the curve and either was using that era of hardware or 
anticipated getting it.

I also grabbed an "Idiot's Guide to the INternet" from 1995, precisely 
because things have changed dramatically from then.

Now that I'm or less using current computers, some of it seems less 
appealing, but certainly in terms of digital form, except for the cost of 
digitizing, it's always important to keep such books.

I've said it about books on amateur radio, when some technology is 
introduced, there is a lot written on the subject, but decades later when 
such things are common, it's often a passing reference.  You need the 
early source to get full insight, and I can think of a few cases in the 
past 20 years where someone has gone back to those original works and done 
some interesting work in the current.
