I've said for some time that I think PO has some kind of mental (neurally based?) "deficiency", the outcome of which is that his brain is just not properly capable of handling "abstract" concepts. That includes abstract (logical) reasoning, understanding formal definitions (like halting, TM, function, set, truth, logical system, proof, and so on), and understanding the arguments and positions of others in respect to PO's claims. Aside from any "physical" deficiency, PO also seems to me to be mentally ill - he is profoundly deluded about almost everything in his life, including his place in the world, believing he is an unacknowledged genius, believing himself /capable/ of participating in any debate of an academic nature, understanding reasons why posters disagree with him, prospects for his future plans and so on... [...without even starting on the God stuff...] It's all reflected in this thread - as you say, Sipser is simply agreeing to a tautology THAT NOBODY HERE HAS EVER DISAGREED WITH as far as I can recall - yet PO interprets the situation as Sipser supporting "[the key fact]" in PO's argument, and believes this somehow "[shoots down the final reason for posters' rebutals]" (my paraphrasing). WTF?! :) Anyway, where you see "disgusting liar", I would just say that PO's mind is completely incapable of understanding the situation, and he /can't/ recognise his own incompetence, so it seems more natural to me that he simply believes all the things he says! (That would mean he is not lying, as he is not conciously attempting to deceive anyone.) Mike.
