One opened in my fairly small town a number of years ago. People went wild over it. I went ONCE with a work function. No desire to go back. Had been to other ones years before and it was as horrid as I remembered. Used to be a GREAT one not too far from me -- family owned and operated -- but they closed a few years ago. Sigh. Same with Thai... there was a great one but they moved and went "upscale"... and, I think, the quality went down and the prices went up (though it is still good). >>> Chinese (but not the common Chinese-American food you find in most US >>> restaurants), Japanese (especially sushi), Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, >>> Moroccan, German, Czech, Hungarian, Mexican, Brazilian, Argentine, >>> etc. I've eaten all of those in their native countries. >> >> I have eaten all of those, but NOT in their native countries and, I am sure, >> the Americanized version of many. > > Interestingly, because there have been so many Japanese businessmen in > the USA, most Japanese restaurants here have pretty authentic food. When I lived in Las Vegas there were some pretty good ones... and authentic enough where they had rooms where English was discouraged, the menus there were only in Japanese, and you sat in traditional Japanese style. I do not speak a word of Japanese (well, essentially), but would go to that room with friends who spoke at least some. > I first started eating Japanese food in NYC around 1954. I use it sometimes... but more often it is used in BBQ sauces and the like that I (or my wife or oldest daughter) makes. > My wife used to pick me up at the train station (I worked in the city) > and we went to a particular Chinese restaurant in the NY suburb where > we lived every Friday. I said to the owner, > "What are they eating? Why don't we get any of that?" > > He said "You wouldn't like it; it's real Chinese food." I said "try > us." So the next week we had a Chinese tripe dish. LOL! I would not have minded. As long as they were willing to eat it I would try... except for maybe some things I am culturally against such as dog and cat and the like. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity.
