It's probably something wrong with your Windows installation, however there are a couple of things that you can check in Linux to see if you have a hardware problem. First install the smartmontools so that you can check the SMART status of your disk drives, if you have a failing drive that would show it. You should also install sys_basher and run the memory test. If you are using Fedora or RHEL 5x or CentOS/SL 5x you will find it in the EPEL repositories. If are using another distro then you can get the source here, it's POSIX C so it will run on any Linux. http://www.polybus.com/sys_basher_web/
