I've accepted the defaults, and I've tried a few other possibilities. 
It starts giving ten 'Format error on this track' errors per track as
soon as I've given the final 'Go'.

Ah - I assumed all IDE harddrives would work, especially as I'm
replacing an old 80GB dive with a new 80GB drive.  It's the 2nd drive
(in a removeable drawer) in my Iyonix.  I get the same results whether
it's set as 'Cable select' or 'Slave'.

Any recommendations?
