Sag mal, sitzt Du etwa noch immer vor Deinem Mac Pro 1.1 von 2006 samt
macOS Sierra?

Sofern ja, dürfte der sich längst sein Geld samt Ruhestand wohlverdient
haben. ;-)

Chrome 103 ist von 2022 und war die letzte Version, welche das
mittlerweile zehn Jahre alte Sierra unterstützt hat.

Selbst das sehr günstige MacBook Neo dürfte ihn mit seiner Handy-CPU
rein von der Rechenleistung her leicht ;-) überholen.

Vom Stromverbrauch ganz zu schweigen, denn der ist bei diesem Oldie im
Vergleich zur Rechenleistung hanebüchen hoch, selbst im Idle deutlich
über 100 W.

Zur Einordnung: Sogar mein Server im heimischen Technikraum Dell/EMC
PowerEdge samt Intel Xeon zieht im Idle unter Linux ca. 30 W,
Massenspeicher alles SSDs. Für 24/7 aber viel zu viel für mich, selbst
das NAS ist meist im Sleep-Modus, wenn ich nicht zu Hause bin, kann ich
alles bei Bedarf ja remote via VPN|WireGuard aufwecken oder auch
starten. Mein iMac M4 im Idle zieht samt eingeschaltetem Retina Display
samt hoher Helligkeit allenfalls 25 W. (Sein Intel-Vorgänger lag AFAIR
so bei 40 W.)

Ich habe selbst zwar eher wenig Ahnung von Musikproduktion, aber für
Linux gibt es diverse DAWs, auch kommerzielle, wie etwa Bitwig Studio
und REAPER. Wobei die OSS Ardour wohl auch BSD unterstützen soll. BSD
wird primär bei Servern eingesetzt, noch mehr als Linux gegenüber dem
Desktop. Warum also ausgerechnet BSD? (Habe NetBSD schon seit 1994
verwendet.)

Habe übrigens selbst genügend Retro-Computer in meiner Sammlung als
Hobby, aber halt nicht für den Alltag. Intel-Macs sind dafür längst
nicht mehr in Betrieb, mobil zuerst abgeschafft.
