I've been looking for *short* cables that go from Lightning to micro and mini USB and also similar cables for USB-c. No success though. I find it hard to believe they don't exist. Anyone know of any? Ideally less than 6" -- Cheers, Steve

Hipchat (instant messaging) has one tap buttons in the touchbar to quickly set away/do not disturb statuses, and that's pretty perfect. A scrubber appears when videos are being played, even in Safari. So there are definitely some useful things in there. -- Chris

Oh it definitely was, but it was a little different. No-one was saying that the USB connector was limiting, they were instead saying that the lack of floppy drive was a mistake. How were users going to transport files to each other? So yeah, a little different because at least the connectors were standard. It wasn't USB only either - still had ethernet, RJ-45, err....-think- that one had Firewire too? Not sure. But yeah - not "USB only" so much as "we believe floppies are dead and people should switch to using the network or USB keys to transfer files'. That was the fuss. Cheers, Ian

It wasn't USB only either - still had ethernet, RJ-45, > err....-think- that one had Firewire too? The Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) was introduced in January 1999 and it was the first Mac with Firewire. It was also the only desktop Mac with both USB and ADB. It had no floppy drive and an optional Zip drive. Apple introduced USB with the original iMac in May 1998 (available August 1998). USB 1.1, 10/100 Ethernet, modem, IR, audio in and out. Connectivity on the iMac didn't change (apart from dropping IR) until the October 1999 revision, which added Firewire in all but the entry level model (also VGA output). > Not sure. But yeah - not "USB only" so much as "we believe floppies are > dead and people should switch to using the network or USB keys to transfer > files'. That was the fuss. Apple's choice seemed to match my experience: I got a Zip drive for my PowerMac 7600 more than a year before the iMac was announced, and had a SCSI CD writer. Not many people I knew were still using floppies to exchange files by 1998, and they were even less useful for backups. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz

Agreed, which made the outrage even more futile. They were more common in the PC world though - BIOS and driver updates etc.. Cheers, Ian

Yeah, this was it - -the- iMac. The internet Mac. That was the whole point - it was always, always meant to exist in a networked and online world. Cheers, Ian

That isn't what I remember. What I recall is that the complaints were about what people felt was the removal of the most common and convenient way of exchanging files. I don't ever recall hearing about BIOS or boot disks. Daniele
