I keep several OS's on a separate Hyper-V server, and access them all 
via Reminna RDP through ubuntu which the only installed OS on this here 
box. Everything is lean and fast, rather than all eggs in one basket.

I expect that's basically turning off hibernation.

Windows 8 onwards is known to get upset if it finds others fiddling with 
hardware configuration or disc layout whilst it's in hibernation.
