I sympathize with your desire to convert the foregoing discussion into
something worthy of consideration. In my experience I've discovered
that in a very few instances you simply cannot get there from here. It
has become increasingly clear this is one of those occasions.

Arguments that creatively appeal to non-existent (in this case papal)
authority drive any possibility of adding redeeming value to a
discussion so far into the ditches that attempts at recovery are futile.

I've already expended unreasonable effort into this dead end discussion
and that, belatedly, ends here.
