Several counties where I grew up limited deer hunters to 12 gauges, either with buckshot or rifled slugs for the same reason. Even in the areas where rifles were allowed the heavy undergrowth effectively limited the range to 50 yards in most places. .32 Special or .30-30 lever actions were popular.

Bullshit, try writing that again. You put a speed instead of a distance, and got the units the wrong sides of the per. We may well quote km per litre somewhere, but I never do, since for some reason our road signs are still in miles. Miles per litre would be best for the UK, since the signs are miles and the pumps litres. What amazes me is how you let your shops advertise prices on the shelves without the sales tax. Since you all pay it, why not include it? However, almost all bottled beer is in half-litres (500ml) or a third of a litre (330ml). It's a rare (and joyous) occasion when you find a real imperial pint (568ml). A common bottle size was a 'fifth', one fifth of a US gallon, which is 25.6 US ounces or 757 ml. The bottle quickly became 750 ml. Trivial, unless you're bottling booze and those extra 7 mls add up to a 'free' bottle for every 107. I don't drink beer but afaik a bottle of beer is still 12 US ounces or 355 ml. It's haphazard. I'm looking at a bottle of flavored water that is 17 oz or 503 ml both of which are odd numbers.
