Thank you. I'm maintaining Dorothy's (Dorothea of Caer-Myrddin)

	maybe.

But seeing as how downloading the last 500 headers has the next
prior posting as Dec '23, and the last SCA related posting July of
'22.

IMHO, for all intents and purposes the Rialto is no longer a
thing.

Perhaps it can be brought back to life...or maybe death. To
wit...

Duke Siegfried von Hoeflichskeit died yesterday. He was one of
the first four dukes of the West, when three of the four were
left-handed programmers.

That's sad to hear. We have been around long enough that news like
this is getting more common.

On the other hand, we've also been around long enough that second
and third generation people are making their presence felt. Not
just those whose parents joined when they were already sort of
grown, but those who were literally born into the SCA.

There was a moment when I realised that I had held the King of
the Outlands in my arms when he was a baby that brought it home
for me. We've got quite a few kids in our local group, and I've watched
some of them since they were quite wee. Some have gafiated, of course,
but others are staying and making it their own.

I'm old enough that many of those dying of old age are poeple
I've met or known for decades. Siegfried was one of those. When
my wife died 3 years ago, we'd been married for over 50 years.
Her first event was the second event ever held.

That applies to my daughter--who turns 50 this year.

You're making me feel like a youngster and a newbie - I've only been in
for 40 years or so ...

But, yes. Two of the people who were formative in my early SCA career
have passed away in the last decade, and several more that I've known
for not quite as long.

Excellent! At least I'm a few years older than she is ...

Yeah. I remember my first SCA event. It was October 1980, and the demo
was at the UMass College Center complex.

They were playing Croquet on flagstones.

This is not the Dream. This is what I do on weekends to have
some fun.

The Dream involves 4 sets of identical twins, 2 gallons of Cool
Whip, 5 quarts of chocolate syrup, 2-1/4 pounds of strawberries,
satin sheets, a magnum of champagne, a trapeze, and a python.
Navicula hydraulica plena anguilarum est.

[Hal Heydt]
Not bad. My first event was West Kingdom Crown Tourney on 21
March 1970. I met Dorothea that day. Dorothea of Caer-Myrrdin's
first event was...the second event ever. That means, in the
West, that she was NOT a "dinosaur", though as I understand it,
she would have been one in any other kingdom.
