That's sad to hear. We have been around long enough that news like
this is getting more common.

On the other hand, we've also been around long enough that second
and third generation people are making their presence felt.  Not
just those whose parents joined when they were already sort of
grown, but those who were literally born into the SCA.

There was a moment when I realised that I had held the King of
the Outlands in my arms when he was a baby that brought it home
for me.  We've got quite a few kids in our local group, and I've watched
some of them since they were quite wee.  Some have gafiated, of course,
but others are staying and making it their own.
