This is a bit different: the license does require preservation of an
existing notice, but adding an explicite acknowledgement somewhere else
(namely in the documentation or wherever usual acknowledgments are put).

This is complicated/impossible. The code links to other GPL code
(f.e. readline), and in priciple one would need to ask the whole chain
to get permission.
