Are these what are powering the "iMac Pro"??
From PCAuthority.com.au ...
Is Intel about to unleash a new range of Core i9 processors?
------------------------------------------------------------
Leaked slide suggests new high-power 7900-series part is in the
pipeline.
We've all been blown away by the impressive performance and even
more impressive pricing of AMD's new Ryzen chips, and it looks
like Intel may have been paying attention, and been holding
something in reserve to counter its resurgent competitor.
Now, fair warning. This leak comes via the Anandtech forums, as
picked up by Guru3D, and is based not only on a photo of a
PowerPoint slide, but it's a work-in-progress slide to boot -
and in German. So, this is far, far from final.
But if we're to take it at face value, Intel's got two new Core
i7 chips, and four Core i9 processors around the corner. The
top-line SKU is the Core i9 7920x with 12 cores and 24 threads,
and 16.5MB of L3 cache.
We don't have any clocks for that part yet, but the next down in
the range is more fully fleshed out. The Core i9 7900x boasts 10
cores and 20 threads, a base clock of 3.3GHz, and boost up 4.5GHz
via Turbo 3.0. Both these high-end CPUs also feature 44 PCIe
lanes.
Translated specs listed on the website at:

Quotation marks are for quotes. I am aware of the speculation on an iMac Pro. I was probably thrown off by your use of the wrong tense: "...are powering..." That's present tense, meaning that the putative iMac Pro exists, which it does not. -- I agree with almost everything that you have said and almost everything that you will say in your entire life. usenet *at* davidillig dawt cawm

as this Core i9 thing been known for some time and the real news is that Intel is about to get it into production? or is this news about Intel working on i9 ? An outfit like Apple gets advance specs and designs and later advance samples so it can start to create new computers based on new chip and go to market as soon as the chip is being mass produced. There is quite a bit of time between both. So if the current news are about Intel about go to nto production, it could mean a June announcement for new Macs. On the other hand, if i9 is still being developped, we may be talking November launches if lucky.

People have referred to the iMacs that Apple has promised as "iMac Pro", so it is appropriate for him to use quotation marks around the term. And if they are to be delivered in the fall, then Apple certainly has prototypes of those systems that DO exist.

Oh for crap's sake, why is the Internet so full of brainless pedantic morons ... it *IS* a quote ... a quote from the journalists who named it that. :-\ > I am aware of the speculation on an iMac Pro. It does exists, inside Apple (they've already said they're working on a more pro-level iMac) ... or do you stupidly believe Apple ships products to stores the same day they design them??
