It is the likely answer and one that would likely satisfy most people.

See above. If they were invited to download something bad then folks in the
group would not appreciate it, the person would be kicked from the forums, and
instructions on how to deal with the issue would be given to the victims.

Do you have plans on how to handle these concerns which are not based on
anything other than EXTREMELY unlikely scenarios?

Yes, I actually *know* the answer to this. They got you to download bad
stuff in the hope it would take you offline, hopefully forever.

It didn't work so thy had to ban you.

It's what I would have done if I was a user / admin on that site.

You are partly right. I gave the password to Snit so that HE could use
the Pro version of EtreCheck - which he did.

Shortly afterwards his Apple iMac ceased to function.

A coincidence I'm sure.

He stopped replying to you you mean, not necessarily the same thing.

Oh yes, you must be right, shame it killed his Mac <wink>

Bizarre.

You really don't get any of it do you?

The whole engraver thing has been repeatedly used against Snit by the
usual culprits and you think playing along with them against your
'friend' is good for your 'friend'?

You really are either thick or don't care about anyone, including your
friends?

Haha! *NO* - but do you see red 'highlighting' here showing that

I see the same in both Safari and Firefox.

No, it's not, they are right, we really don't care about your one man
(?) crusade into harassing innocent people.

Hardly very 'Christian' is it?

If there was anything that would actually get you sectioned it's this.

Leave it and find something more wholesome to do, unless you really
think that you are the only one to see though to these people as being
real bad guys? (Think on your actual computer skills before answering).

I have found no-one yet who has reverse-engineered EtreCheck.

Folk have *NO CLUE* as to what they are loading onto their computer when
they use it.

This combination of statements leads me to believe that BDB doesn't have
a good grasp of what 'reverse-engineered' means in the context of software.

> Folk have *NO CLUE* as to what they are loading onto their computer
> when they use it.

This part implies that what BDB thinks he is talking about is something
along the lines of 'knows *exactly* what E'Chk is doing to do what it
'does'.

But that isn't what reverse engineering would mean for s/w. If one were
going to 'reverse engineer' E'Chk, they would create a software which
performs the same duties as E'Chk w/o having any access to E'Chk's
source code.

This 'type of' mistaken thinking is because BDB has a theory that E'Chk
is 'nefarious'. What would be helpful to dispel that theory would be if
BDB or someone who is actually capable of reading the source code had
access to that.

JD implies that he would make such source code available to someone, but
not just with the conventional license he provides.

> This License does not grant you the right to access to the source
> code of the Software. If, in certain circumstances, such access is
> desired by you, you may enter into a separate license with Etresoft.

The wp article on reverse engineering has an extensive section on what
the term means in the case of software and distinctly addresses the
issue of source code as part of the discussion.

If BDB weren't so daft in the head about how he 'interprets' JD and his
software that causes him to simply 'make things up' to misrepresent
anything he encounters in that sphere so as to appear delusional he
might be able to 'see things' like a normal person, instead of whatever
he is.

You are VERY rude, Mr Easter! :-P

Do, please, read the long post by "etresoft" here ....

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7474731?sortBy=rank

Then ask him, *NOW*, for his "source code"!

I'll wager he will not provide it!

What makes you think his code is open source?

Asking ChatGPT I get this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, EtreCheck is not open-source software. Itโ€™s a proprietary diagnostic tool
for macOS, created by Etresoft, Inc., primarily designed to help users
identify and troubleshoot performance issues on their Mac systems. While it
provides transparency in system diagnostics and has a free version with
limited features, the source code isnโ€™t publicly available.

Given that it is no open source it would be weird if he opened the source.
