Just bought a new iMac running Sierra. Upgrading from my 9 year old iMac with Snow Leopard and Eudora... getting ready to use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to move all email first into Mail 4.6 on old iMac in preparation to move all that into Mail 10.3 on the new Sierra iMac.
First I am making a duplicate of my Eudora Folder and storing it somewhere else. Then I am deleting Eudora stuff I don't care about and compacting mailboxes. I do not care about attachments because I always save those somewhere else and Attachment Folder is empty.
I'm a little nervous about making the switch and also not sure how to get all the emails and mailboxes that go into Mail on my old machine onto the new iMac. Does that transfer over ok, where do I put it all? ~/Libary/Mail/V4 ??? Delete what is in there now and throw it all in there?
Any tips for that much appreciated, thank you.

Someone else in this news group (Patty Winter) recently did the same
thing. And it seems an application called Emailchemy gave the best
results. Read this thread for details:

<https://groups.google.com/d/topic/comp.sys.mac.apps/1zns2VU-wr8/discussion>

I've used Emailchemy in the past for converting messages from Outlook
to Apple Mail with great results as well.

Emailchemy is available here:

I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead.

Thank you for replying.
It looks like I have 59000 email messages in my Eudora. Hope Emailchemy and Mail do not succumb to that.
In the Emailchemy manual it says: "So, if you don’t have your old computer or old email program anymore but you still have the email files, Emailchemy can read them anywhere".
That sounds to good to be true: I can copy my Eudora folder (containing the mail, filters, addressbook etc but NOT the actual Eudora application) to my new iMac (for example in the Documents folder) and Emailchemy will convert the files, which I can then import to Mail? (Thus saving me the step of converting to Mail on old iMac and then importing to new iMac?)
Sounds like a better option than Eudora Mailbox Cleaner. Thanks again. I will post after I do this (have to get my nerve up...).

I used Emailchemy to migrate from Eudora to Apple Mail about five years
ago. I had more than 80000 messages in Eudora, and they came across
fine, including attachments for some messages (probably just the ones
which I hadn't moved out of Eudora's attachments folder - it sounds like
that question won't be a problem for you anyway).

Yes.

I used the Emailchemy method of converting the Eudora mail to standard
MBOX files in a different folder, then I imported that folder into Apple
Mail, then I deleted that folder.

A minor nuisance was that the imported mail was all marked as unread,
but I think they improved that detail in later versions of Emailchemy.
(It might also help if you output in Apple Mail format rather than
MBOX.)

I don't recall whether I did the conversion while still running Snow
Leopard or after I had upgraded to a new OS (Lion at the time) but it
wouldn't have made any difference.

Emailchemy has a demo mode which you can use to see if it will work,
before buying the software: it converts all your mail but changes the
subject lines and From fields in the converted copy (to something like
"Buy Emailchemy"). This shows whether it will work for a proper
conversion after you pay for Emailchemy.

I have in excess of 10 times that many emails in Mail.app.
