Deja Vu PowerPC. I'd lean more to the fact that Apple have invested by buying three companies (or more) who are CPU design experts. Controlling one's destiny with CPU design you own and not paying intel's margins is a much more useful thing than not waiting on intel. The next "delay" fence that Apple would face would be the fabs. It's all nice and dandy to spec to the tightest of the tight - the fabs being able to deliver is another thing altogether. That would be the next line of frustration for Apple. I doubt they want to be in the fab business at all - that is capital intensive and obsoletes quickly. -- She hummed to herself because she was an unrivaled botcher of lyrics. -Nick (Gone Girl), Gillian Flynn.

Yep, just hope I get compiler support quickly for fpc. It generates ARM code but will need the infamous "Command line tools" for linking to make exec's. -- She hummed to herself because she was an unrivaled botcher of lyrics. -Nick (Gone Girl), Gillian Flynn.

Unix no longer runs on its original hardware, except maybe a museum still running a PDP-11, and has run on many different CPUs since then. The differences in hardware and kernels have to do with incompatiable constraints: iPhones have to run a long time on a battery charge and run an interface solely through a touch screen. MacOSX products have to run fast and can expect a variety of inputs, especially keyboard and mouse, and can use more power, either plugged into the grid or carrying a heavier and larger battery. Unless/until ARM performance matches Intel performance while not making battery life worse for laptops, Apple doesn't have market for all ARM devices. > or will laptops and imacs go away and you will just plug you iphone > into a keyboard and display If they can deal with battery issues, an alternative strategy is bunch cooperating devices communicating with Bluetooth. So maybe the central component is a massive SSD which houses your computer's soul. Maybe housed in an iPhone for a minimal interface. Place a keyboard or mouse in its vicinity to add those as inputs. Have a flatscreen nearby and your can move your interface to that. Additional disk volumes are separate devices in the vicinity. Buy a dektacpu box and sit next to it to farm compute intensive processes there. You can walk around with your computer's soul always with you, and use the other components as you need and are willing to deal with the weight. -- :-<> Siri Seal of Disavowal #000-001. Disavowed.
