#95101 — Delete Outbox in Apple Mail

With the update to Sierra, I tried to use mail drop again to see if it
cleared up the previous problems I was having with it. I am still
having problems; when trying to send the mail with a large attachment,
it made my system unresponsive and I had to force quit and reboot.
Mail runs fine now, but that one email is sitting in my outbox and any
attempts to delete it cause my system to hang. Is there anyway to
delete the contents of the outbox outside of the mail program??

While I'm on 10.8.5, I've seen a similar problem with attachements
totaling more than 5MB. Most mail systems are configured to bounce stuff
larger than 5MB, so I use Dropbox or my web server and post a link.

To clear the problem, I delete the message and rebuild the mailbox. If
Apple removed the Rebuild option from Mail, then try going into
~/Library/Mail and poking around with Terminal.

The problem is that I cannot delete the message. As soon as I click on
it, i get the spinning beach ball and have to force quit. If I just it
alone, everything works fine.

Let the beach ball spin a while rather than force quitting it
immediately.

Trying rebuild mailbox *before* trying to delete the message.

Or if the accunt is IMAP, delete the account and reinstall.

Hi, it is a IMAP Google account and I did try and delete it and
reinstall. It was still there...Ultimately, it doesn't matter; mail
runs fine with it in the outbox. It just bugs me that I can't get rid
of it easily.

G-mail makes it tough to delete anything. You might try archiving it
and then delete from the Google archive.

I had a similar experience trying to use Mail Drop from a non-iCloud
account on one of my machines once. But letting it hang for long enough to
delete the message was all that was needed. If you don't have the patience
to let it do its thing, try deleting it at night before you go to bed and
let it "hang" while it processes the deletion.

Thanks, that is a good idea and probably what I am going to do. Mail
runs fine with it sitting in the outbox, but for some reason it really
bugs me that it is there.
