| Subject | El Capitan / SSL / Safari - failure to connect |
| Message-ID | <d644i6FenkdU1@mid.individual.net> |
I'm doing OK with El Capitan - testing on a separate partition but using all my stuff. But I am losing my mind with one issue. I can not load SSL sites (https) in Safari. They're fine in other browsers. Safari Can't Open the Page Safari can't open the page "https://facebook.com" because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "facebook.com". Worse, it's not absolute! There are a very few SSL sites that do load. I've tried every bookmarked SSL site I have and maybe 4 connected. My bank's works. Grrr. Googling gave me one hit from an early El Capitan beta claiming Avast was the cause. I don't have that but did have Sophus AntiVirus. Note the *had*. I uninstalled it and still no luck. I have ditched stored passwords for some trial sites. I have ditched cookies & caches. Any ideas?

I don't have the details but Apple changed https:// in Safari to require new versions of SSL and not connect to older versions. I assume Apple has plenty of notes ahout this change.

None worked. And then I realized they were all for stuff relating to a particular user. I had failed to mention in my OP that my issue appeared no matter what user I tried. So then it hit me like a ton of bricks that I could try at the root level. I was excited so swung a huge bat and deleted any pref file related to security in /private/var/root/Library/Preferences as well as /Library/Preferences. I have no idea which was the culprit but all is well now. Thanks to all who read/considered/replied!

Safari, in ios 9 and OS El capitan, don't load some web sites with SSL. Infinity loading. Any tips?
