Ah, but the important metric is what percentage of MacBookPro use the ethernet port. It that product line catered to the types of people who needed the extra ports on the unit, not found on 90% of the rest, then it filled an important niche in the market. > A lot more than a couple of percent, you numpty idiot troll. 30% less > volume. Was battery autonomy mentioned at the product announcement ? Apparently, Schiller told a reporter via email that one reason for the 16gig RAM limit was power consumption. (not sure how much power having extra memory consumes). But considering the product launch spoke heavily of RAM heavy apps like movies and photoshop, 16 gigs for a "Pro" is not exactly very interesting. > No it doesn't, not for the vast majority of users. Nope. For example, if you plugin an external display, the display provides power. No need for a seprate power. You could easily do the same thing with a Thunderbolt 3 hub, or a USB-C hub. John McWilliams: > No respected Mac user goes to Starbucks unless it's the only game in > town. And few of my documents reside in anyone's cloud, nor am I a > "hipster". Well! I would stop at Starbucks once in a while except that the nearest one to me (outside a supermarket) is in a mall 12 miles away and I rarely go to the mall. And I don't go to the supermarket to drink coffee. So put me down for one visit to Starbucks every 18 months or so. And when I go I don't take my MBP. OTOH, I see kids with their MBP's at Panera on Saturday mornings (weekly astronomers' breakfast meeting). They don't pose like hipsters, but like college students doing college-student work. In fact I'm quite certain that's what they are. But if I took my MBP to Starbucks or Panera for some arcane reason, I think that I could walk away with my self-respect intact. As for documents residing in "the cloud," which I, as a senior citizen, call "stored on a remote server," I find remote storage most convenient for transferring (sharing) documents and photographs (Dropbox) and for syncing calendars, address books, and what-not among Mac and iOS (iCloud). I don't put sensitive personal data on remote servers, but I recognize that my doctor, my financial institutions, my pharmacy, and many on-line retailers have a considerable amount of my private information stored remotely. I just received a new debit card from BofA because my old card was compromised somewhere. I can't help that if I'm to live in the modern world, and I don't lose sleep over it. Since I don't watch TV I don't know who Apple targets with their ads. But it makes sense that they would go for affluent young people rather than affluent seniors. Grab 'em while they're young, and all. I'm a demographic outlier, a 72-year-old with six modern Macs in the house (my wife's two iMacs, my iMac, my three MBP's) and numerous iOS devices. Apple doesn't know that I exist, figuratively speaking. In reality, they know me because I have done some minor work for them on three occasions under NDA's. But they obviously don't have a team targeting me, asking "what does David want?" One of those NDA'S has expired‹I was one of the first in the area to know that Apple was going to open a store in the Annapolis Mall. They phoned me well in advance to ask if I would be interested in working there. I declined gracefully, as I remembered that when you have a job, they expect you to show up regularly, and I wasn't prepared to do that anymore. Maybe not, but try looking at an Apple Store in Google Maps on an Android phone. See what they label it. I really can't argue the point of calling them "Cell phone store".

Consider all your software licenses, time to setup and configure your system, setup storage, backup etc. The goal is to upgrade the computer without having to redo everything from scratch. When a technology is widthdrawn, you have to consider the cost/time to convert any/all media from old hardware to new hardware (or software for that matter).
