Long ago, someone made a standard layout keyboard, where each key-cap was a 48x48-pixel color LCD (replaceable) and each could be programmed to send up to ____ bytes to the computer. (Forgot the number, more than a dozen). People were using them to control CAD and image editors, making keys do fancy things and changing what the keycap showed to suit. You could quickly reprogram the keycaps and the byte sequences when changing programs. Unfortunately, though the layout was standard, the size was larger, so learning to use it took some time. Last I checked, full keyboard no longer available, but a number pad was still available.
