I almost always do what I need with hidden files in a terminal window on
the command line. On the rare occasions I do access them through a GUI
app it's typically an app like TextWrangler or some other app that lets
you easily access hidden files in its open/save dialog boxes. I haven't
actually used the Command-Shift-Period shortcut in ages.
