I am FAR from an expert on file systems... but know it does not handle many
of the features of ZFS and the like such as block level backups and
checksums for integrity. Also recall something about it not being able to
handle requests as efficiently as NTFS, ext4, and the like - but cannot go
into detail or even be certain about that without Googling.

OK, decided to Google after I wrote that. STILL not an expert on this, but
assuming these are correct HFS+ has a lot of weaknesses:

Have read other stuff in the past that seems to fit with what these say,
from memory. But, again, I am NOT an expert in this area at all and these
articles could be completely wrong.

I will say I find OS X to be slower with heavy disk access than other OSs.
Might not be as big of a deal with the newer / more expensive Fusion drives
- but I do not have one. :)
