iMessage problems

I've had to reconstruct my iMessages preferences on my iMac, iPhone,
and iPad.

I was able to set all three up with the same email address (plus the
iPhone's phone number on the iPhone), but I'm having the following
problems.

1.  I can't figure out how to add the phone number to the iPad and
iMac; both of them (as does the iPhone) let me add email addresses, but
not the iPhone's phone number.

2.  When I try to add additional email addresses to any of these three
devices, it tells me that it's sending a verification email to the
email address I'm trying to add, but I never receive any of those
messages, regardless of which device I'm adding the email address to.

I'm running the latest iOS on both iDevices and Yosemite public beta on
the iMac.
